The LaFortune neighborhood in Tulsa County, Oklahoma includes LaFortune Park. This is a 279-acre park that has a variety of amenities for the enjoyment of area residents. A 3.3-mile trail, baseball fields, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a community center and the championship golf course are part of the many attractive extras available in Tulsa golf neighborhoods. LaFortune Park was founded in 1960 by Joseph A. Lafortune, an oilman, as an expression of his gratitude for the kindness shown to him by the city of Tulsa.
The Buddy LaFortune Community Center was named after his son and was opened in 2007. The center contains a half-court gym and offers classes in Zumba, meditation and dancing as well as a variety of others, including seasonal events for the LaFortune neighborhood’s youth. The park was originally a farm and today the LaFortune Golf Course is one of the distinguishing features of the park. It features an 18-hole, par-3 course and has a natural grass driving range. A favorite of the residents of Tulsa golf neighborhoods as well as visitors to the area, the course has undergone recent renovations. It was named one of “America’s 100 Best Clubfitters” for 2011 by Golf Digest.
The golf course is open all year and golfers can get an early start as it opens at 6 a.m. The clubhouse opens a bit later, depending on the time of year and closes at 6:30 p.m. November through March. It is open until 10 p.m. during the warmer months of April through October.
The tennis center in this LaFortune neighborhood is located at 5302 Hudson and offers private lessons as well as drills. The lessons are available for all playing levels and they also host USTA adult leagues. Plans for a 27,600-square foot, indoor tennis center and courts are in the works. The center currently has 21 lighted outdoor courts.
Residents of Tulsa golf neighborhoods can enjoy LaFortune Park’s swimming pool as well. It is open from June to the second week of August. The clubhouse is a favorite spot for visitors to enjoy lunch and dinner. The LaFortune Fairways Restaurant will seat approximately 160 people, which makes it perfect for groups and golf meetings.
